One of the biggest misconceptions about Vendor Advocates is that agents don’t want to work with us because we share in their commission. The truth? Many agents see the value in working with us and often go out of their way to secure the opportunity.
Here are 5 reasons why.
1. Agents Approach Us First
Far from avoiding us, we often receive calls from agents wanting to know how they can get onto our “preferred agent list.” Just last week, an agent from Sydney’s Inner West asked exactly that. I explained that we don’t keep a fixed list — instead, we shortlist agents on a case-by-case basis depending on location, property type, and price point. We follow a very strict and proven process each and every time that allows us to select the best agents across the whole of Sydney and beyond. The fact that agents are reaching out to us first shows how much they value the opportunity to work together.
2. They Value Honest Feedback
When agents miss out, they often call us after the interview to find out how they could have done better. Sellers rarely give this level of detail, but we can be open and constructive because of our independence and expertise when it comes to identifying the best agents. One agent told me after such a call, “I really appreciate the feedback — I know exactly what to focus on for next time.”

3. They’re Eager for a Second Chance
We often see agents who weren’t selected the first time come back hungrier the second. I interviewed an agent recently that had missed out on a previous occasion and they said “I really want the opportunity to work together and will do whatever it takes this time around.” This kind of determination shows that far from being resentful, agents often work harder to prove themselves and form an ongoing relationship with us. This means more focus and commitment from them toward achieving the best possible result for our clients.
And this agent wrote it perfectly on their recent Google Review :
“This was my first time working with a vendor advocate and I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth the process was. I have previously been interviewed by Kathryn and not chosen to represent the property, so I know she purely works in the owner’s best interest, which is what she is engaged to do.”
4. Winning the Listing Matters Most
I think we all know that an agent’s number one priority is securing listings. If that means paying a portion of their fee for the opportunity to collaborate, they’re more than happy to do so. They understand it is very often an opportunity they would never have had without our involvement.
To an agent a listing isn’t just one sale — it’s brand exposure and contact with more buyers who eventually become sellers. They know if they perform well for us this time around, next time we are in their area, they will be given the same opportunity to pitch for the business again.
“As an agent, it was a refreshing experience to collaborate with an advocate who truly understands the nuances of the market and the importance of a strong partnership. Their involvement undoubtedly contributed to the excellent result we achieved.”

5. We Make the Campaign Easier
Agents also know that when working with us, the campaign is going to be smoother and more streamlined. By the time a property hits the market, we’ve helped the seller prepare their home, understand current trends, and feel confident in the process.
Greg highlighted this after a recent campaign:
“Kathryn essentially manages the owners during the campaign… Her work with the owners prior to going to market was exceptional and the home was presented perfectly, which again made my job easy.”
And Matt, from McGrath, echoed the same sentiment:
“Kathryn’s assistance was invaluable to our vendor. She represented the Vendor with the utmost respect, and I know her advice was appreciated immensely.”
The Bottom Line
The assumption that agents don’t want to work with Vendor Advocates simply isn’t true. In reality, many agents recognise the benefits: clearer communication, better-prepared vendors, and stronger outcomes. At the end of the day, it means smoother campaigns for them — and better results for you.
